Three months left this year — enough to finish one thing

The calendar on the wall has flipped to October. He stands looking at it for a while, then at the things still unfinished: each one started, each one only halfway there. Three months left in the year.

Moment 1

His first instinct is to catch up on all of it. He fills every slot of the week. Then he remembers doing exactly this at the start of the year — taking on everything at once, keen for a few weeks, and ending up with nothing finished. Doing too much means finishing nothing. So this time he crosses things off and keeps just one.

Moment 2

The one he keeps is a course he paid for long ago and barely started. Every time he opened it, he told himself he was too busy — next month. But when he actually does the maths, a few evenings a week for three months is enough to finish. The time was always there. He just hadn't opened the lesson.

Moment 3

Some evenings he comes home from work worn out and thinks about skipping a session. Just one. But he knows the last course he dropped started with exactly one skipped session like this. So he sits down, opens the book, and finishes the session — not because he feels like it, but because the feeling only comes once he's at the desk.

Choosing one thing isn't giving up. It's letting one thing get finished.

There are three months left this year. If you could finish only one thing, which would it be?
