Weeks without motivation — some seasons are just for standing still
September 23, 2026

Sunday. He's been lying down since noon, phone glowing on the pillow. Every video that scrolls past is someone up at 5am, reading, running, learning one more thing. For weeks now, he has only gone to work and come home to sleep.

Sitting still for even a moment feels like a small crime. Then he thinks of his mother's rice field back home: some seasons she plants, some seasons she lets the soil rest, and nobody calls that field lazy. He turns the phone face down, pulls up the blanket, and goes back to sleep.

Monday, in the office pantry, a coworker asks what he's been learning lately. He just smiles. The next desk has a tower of course books; his own "learn more" notebook is still blank. But last month's calendar is full in every square. He carried two people's work for thirty days. He isn't falling behind. He's getting his strength back. This time, he tells his coworker the truth.

Friday night, the weekly goals page reads 0/5. He almost asks himself whether the whole week was wasted, then looks again: as tired as he was, he didn't miss a single workday. He picks up the pen, adds one more line, "still standing", and ticks it off.
Some seasons you grow. Some, you stand still. In a standing season, just stand.
Did you grow at all this week? If not, are you still standing?
