Everyone's Traveling — I Stayed to Work
July 20, 2026

It's summer, and Hiền is lying in bed scrolling Instagram when her friends' stories start stacking up: one at the beach in Phú Quốc, one under the pines in Đà Lạt, one in Nha Trang. One after another. And Hiền — 23, a shop assistant — will be back behind the counter tomorrow, like every day.

She taps a heart on each photo, then locks her screen. Same age, graduated the same year — how is it everyone's already been everywhere, while she's still circling the same city. The ache comes softly but honestly. Nobody did anything wrong; it's just that where she stands isn't where they go.

An eight-hour shift, and her legs are worn out. Mid-day, a friend texts to invite her to Đà Lạt this weekend. Hiền looks at the message — this month's pay isn't enough to go far. She just smiles and types back, "maybe next time." These legs that stand all day, she feeds them herself — without asking anyone for a cent.

That evening her mom calls to check in. Hiền talks about work, about the counter, about the customers. And somewhere in the telling, it hits her: she's taking care of herself, and every month she still sends a little home. Some people travel on their savings; some travel on credit paid off in installments — and that part, nobody posts to their story.
A pretty photo won't say where the money came from. I've got myself. No need to compare.
Have you ever felt like you were standing still — when really, you were standing on your own two feet?
