The routine you're bored of is the one feeding you
September 14, 2026

The 5th of the month. Early morning in a rented room, a green tick on the phone screen: rent transferred. The light through the window is still pale, the work shirt hangs on the door hook, the alarm went off at five-thirty. The holiday is over. Today it's traffic again, meetings again, coming home tired again — exactly like every day before the break.

He opens his feed: beaches, cafés, other people's trips. His own day has nothing worth posting: wake up early, sit in traffic, sit in meetings, eat, sleep. Boring enough that he wouldn't bother telling anyone. Then he looks back at the green tick. This month's rent — that boring rhythm paid it. Twenty-two working days with nothing to show off, and every month it's enough. The routine he's bored of is the one feeding him. He closes the app and takes the bike to work.

That night his mother texts: got it, son. Two million đồng, sent every month, never mentioned to anyone. He scrolls through his transfer history — every row looks like every other row, none of them stands out. And suddenly he sees that the two million isn't money. It's twenty-two days of early alarms, traffic and meetings that he still calls boring. This boring rhythm is feeding his mother too. He replies with a single "yes, Mom", puts the phone face-down, sets the alarm for six.

Some nights he sits on the sofa, phone dark on the armrest, and wonders: is this life too plain? A friend texts "how've you been" and he has nothing to answer. No good news, no bad news. Then he looks at the empty notification tray, the stack of paid bills pinned to the wall. Having nothing to tell also means owing no one, nothing broken. Steady isn't plain. It's peace. He sets the alarm, same as every day.
Not worth posting online. Worth living, every single day.
Not everyone needs a brilliant life. A lot of people just need one that runs steady — work to go to, sleep that comes, enough money at month's end, a small good thing now and then. Is that rhythm of yours still running this week?
