Not great yet — but not who I was last year

Year's end, a warm desk lamp glowing, Hương opens her old diary. The line she wrote in January is still there: "I'm scared to call customers. So scared my heart races before every call." She reads it, and quietly smiles.

Moment 1

The person who wrote that used to stare at a customer's number for a long time before daring to dial. Now she calls every day, headset on, talking as easily as breathing. Not because the fear vanished overnight — but because after enough calls, her hands simply stopped shaking.

Moment 2

She turns another page and finds another line: "I don't know how to build a complex Excel report." There was a formula last year that left her stuck, in tears. Now she's the one sitting beside the new hire, walking them through it step by step.

Moment 3

On the year-end feed, everyone is richer, promoted, travelling abroad. Hương has none of that yet. But she turns off her phone, opens her diary, and measures herself against the only person worth measuring against: herself, a year ago.

The measure isn't on the feed. It's on the page I wrote last year.

She isn't better than "the kid next door." But she's better than who she was twelve months ago. How long has it been since you reread what you once wrote?
