Mom Keeps Comparing Her to the Neighbor's Daughter
July 7, 2026

Dinner table. Mom is telling the story again — the neighbor's daughter Yen works at a bank, makes twenty million a month, just bought a car. Tram picks up a piece of vegetable, chews slowly, eyes down on her bowl. No argument. No explanation. Just silence.

Her mom doesn't mean to hurt her — she's just "guiding" her, in her own way. But the story about Yen keeps coming back, and every time, Tram chooses quiet over arguing. Because arguing turns into a fight, and a fight makes no one happy.

Back in her room, she opens her savings app. Nine million a month — less than half of what Yen makes — but she still sets a little aside every month. No one sees that number quietly growing. Only she does.

After dinner, she stands up to clear the bowls, washing each one under warm water. No one praises her for it. But her hands slow down, and so does everything else — enough to know she doesn't need anyone's approval to feel okay.
She compares because she worries. I'm just moving at my own pace.
