Three weeks of late nights, and one special bowl of phở
October 5, 2026

It's finally done. He closes the laptop and just sits for a moment, listening to the fan with no keyboard clatter underneath it. It's the first quiet afternoon in three weeks.

For three weeks he worked until late every night. Every meal was eaten in a hurry at his desk, the lunch box lid half-open before the next task pulled him away. Now that it's over, he doesn't go straight home. He walks to the phở place he's been craving for a month — and this time, he orders the special.

He usually only lets himself get the regular bowl. This one arrives piled with meat, herbs covering the broth. He tastes it — honestly, it isn't that different. And yet he's happy. Not because of the phở, but because he knows he just pushed through something hard. He eats slowly, all the way down to the last spoonful of broth.

Every other time he finished something, he'd go home, sleep, and wake up straight into the next job. Hard work after hard work, and never a moment that felt good. This time he stops for phở before heading home — one small meal to mark that the hard thing is done.
The work never really runs out. Finish a stretch, give yourself a little something.
The last time you finished something hard, what did you give yourself?
